| Qualities of a Good Basketball Hoop |

Rebound – This is probably the biggest, most important factors that influences the quality of a basketball hoop. When you bounce a basketball against a professional backboard, the basketball stays rigid, and therefore the basketball comes almost straight back. When you bounce a basketball against a cheaper system, the backboard absorbs a lot more of the energy from the backboard, and it drops straight down. A more rigid system, and The two factors that most greatly influence the rebound of a basketball hoop are the thickness and construction of the pole and the rigidity of the backboard. The thicker the pole, the more rigid your system will be. Square poles are preferable to round basketball poles because they are more stable. In higher quality systems, glass backboards are better than acrylic basketball backboards because they offer a lot more rebound and a lot more pro style play. Overhang – The overhang of your basketball hoop is the distance from the backboard to the pole. Longer basketball brackets makes for a longer overhang. Overhang is important because it allows you to play more under the rim. It also makes games safer, because with the pole out of the way, it decreases the chances that a basketball player with crash into it during a lay-up. Durability – The durability of a basketball hoop is related, but distinct from its stability. The durability refers to how much abuse it can take without suffering any major dents or cracks that hurt its performance. One of the major factors that influence that influence the durability of a basketball hoop is the gauge of the steel that composes its pole. The lower the gauge, the thicker the steel, and the more durable the whole system will be. Most cheaper basketball poles have a steel gauge of about sixteen or eighteen. Many higher quality systems have a steel gauge of about eleven gauge. And very high quality, professional grade systems have a gauge of seven. Easy Installation – You should also consider just how much work is involved in setting up a basketball hoop relative to its quality. You should realize, however, that generally the amount of time that takes to set up a basketball hoop is directly related to the quality of the basketball goal. For example, simple kiddie hoops might not take any tools at all to set up and can have you up and shooting baskets in less than an hour. On the other hand, large, professional grade in ground basketball hoops might require three people and several hours of work over the course of three days before you able to start playing. If you really want a quality basketball goal, be prepared to invest a great deal of time in its installation. However if you are willing to spend a little bit extra, you can always pay someone else to install the hoop for you. Most fence installers and handymen in your general area are willing to install high grade basketball hoops for a couple hundred dollars.   |
